Big Island Moon and Whales

Mike and I scored big today with our hunt for the moon whales. At 4:30 a.m., the moon was high in the sky and just begging to be photographed.  After a 2 1/2 mile walk, we got ready and headed to the beach to look for whales.  While we saw some very weird things at the beach, this was definitely the highlight!

Big Island Birds, Turtles and Water!

Mike and I went on a photo safari today.  We drove over 90 miles past the south tip of the Big Island to find some incredible photo opportunities.  We found some birds and a couple of turtles resting on a black sand beach.  I also wanted to take advantage of the waves by trying out a new technique I have recently learned on how to blur moving water.  Check out our results!

Hawaiian Adventures

Mike and I spent the day stumbling and tripping over lava to get some incredible views of the coast line. We would often stop to watch the whales frolicking in the water, the waves pound the cliffs or just to catch our breath in the shade of a tree. We hiked a total of 8 miles today and our legs and backs are feeling every inch!

Big Fun on the Big Island!

Mike and I had a fun day on the North Kohala Coast.  As we would hike down the different areas of the shoreline, we would sit and watch all the whales breaching and blowing as they swam by us.  What an incredibly relaxing day!

Aurora Hunters Find both North Lights & Stars

Mike and I have been on the hunt for the aurora borealis for two nights.  On Thursday, we only saw stars.  Tonight, as we were driving home from the hockey game, we scored big!  The aurora was out in a fantastic way!
